Skil 10" Drill Press with Laser [Review]

I’ve wanted a drill press for a long time.  Recently I've had the need for one and I went looking online.  I was just looking out of curiosity because I knew I wouldn’t be buying anything.  I found what some might call a “mini” drill press on Amazon.  The Skil 3320-02.  It’s not exactly the industrial machine shop tool that I had in mind but I thought that it might work for most of what I need.  I ordered it.  Free Prime shipping makes buying stuff too easy sometimes.

Specs:
3.2A 120V motor
5 Speed 570-3050 RPM via adjustable belt and stepped pulleys
2 Beam laser X (the "laser" seems gimmicky but it works as intended)
½” Chuck
45° Tilting work surface

The box arrived in decent shape.  Unfortunately, I had to put it in the garage and wait for the weekend to put it together.  I took me about a half an hour to set the drill press up.  The assembly was easy and well documented.  The manual lists the tools required for setup as an adjustable wrench, a Philips screwdriver, a hammer, and a block of wood.  Which for me meant a 12mm wrench, Phillips screwdriver, plastic mallet, and the two included Allen wrenches.

For what is basically a $110 drill press I’m impressed.  I assume Skil (Bosch) has these things manufactured in China by some third party as I’ve seen other brands that look a lot like this machine.  Maybe they’re just cheap imitations or maybe Skil keeps tighter quality controls.  I don’t know.  I do know that I’m extremely satisfied with the purchase.  This is a cool little drill press.  It certainly wouldn’t hold up in a machine shop setting with heavy daily use, but it will do what I need just fine.  I can see getting years of use out of it and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to someone for their home.

  2. I already own several Skil 3320-02 tools. It did not disappoint me at all. It can be said that, within a week they will start to understand how worth it is to buy and then will start suggesting others to get that.
